Although many of us know that Spider-Man is now the exclusive property of Sony, the appearance of the “Marvel Studios” logo on promotional material for The Amazing Spiderman brought fans to wonder if the web-slinger might make a visit to The Avengers this May.

Sadly, it has been confirmed that Spider-man will not make an appearance in The Avengers.

Avi Arad, executive producer of The Amazing Spiderman, said today that Spider-Man has a “huge universe” that they plan on exploring. Or in other words-

It’s not something we’re thinking about because we have so much more to tell.

Since Sony has exclusive rights to Spider-Man and it’s affiliates, it’s just too far of a stretch that they would rent their cash cow out to other studios (even if it would make us very very happy).

In fact, we would argue that Sony decided to reboot the Spider-Man franchise specifically to fight Warner Brothers and Disney on the superhero front.

Anyway, what do you think? Would you have liked to see Spider-Man in The Avengers? Do you think that Sony would ever sell Spider-Man back to Marvel? Do you think Twentieth Century Fox will ever give back the X-Men?

Thanks to ComicBookMovie for the confirmation!
