The study group will spend Halloween trekking through Pierce’s (haunted?) mansion the upcoming season’s second episode on October 26.

Community has built up a solid tradition of excellent Halloween episodes during its relatively short run. Season 1’s “Introduction to Statistics” featured Pierce in a He-Man costume under the influence of Starburn’s pills, and of course the first appearance of Abed’s gravelly-voiced Batman. Season 2’s “Epidemiology” is, of course, the oft-mentioned zombie episode. And season 3’s “Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps” had the gang telling their own horror stories, Mary Shelley-style.

Now season 4’s Halloween episode, “Paranormal Parentage,” seems like it will keep the ball rolling. Per NBC’s synopsis:

“While on their way to Vicki’s (Danielle Kaplowitz) Halloween costume party, the study group makes a detour to Pierce’s (Chevy Chase) mansion when they learn he accidentally locked himself in his panic room. As Pierce languishes behind locked doors, the group searches the dark and eerie house for the book that holds the code to the door. Along the way they encounter a few of the house’s secrets.”

An episode at Vicki’s costume party itself would actually be interesting to see, but it would almost certainly be topped by Pierce trapped in a panic room (he probably just built the panic room, considering the movie Panic Room came out in 2002 and ten years seems about the right amount of time for Pierce to adopt a pop cultural device) and the Greendale Seven on a quest for its code.

The Hawthorne mansion likely isn’t as vast as Castle Hawkthorne and almost certainly doesn’t contain the gargantuan floating head of an old racist man with ivory hair but there should still be some exciting finds.

On a semi-related note, Entertainment Weekly has posted the cast of Community‘s acceptance videos for their EWwy awards. Community won Best Comedy, as voted on by EW’s viewers. Joel McHale also won Best Lead Actor in a Comedy, while Alison Brie won Best Supporting Actress and Danny Pudi, Best Supporting Actor. The videos aren’t embeddable, which is a crime against humanity, quite frankly, considering how adorable they are. So head on over to watch Pudi and Brie play with golden lambs and McHale pretend that Chevy Chase is napping just off-camera.
