Señor Ben Chang a.k.a. El Tigre a.k.a. actor Ken Jeong has agreed to co-star in ABC’s upcoming pilot, Spy.

Jeong is the first Community cast member thus far to try out a new pilot. Chevy Chase also famously voluntarily left the show but hasn’t been kicking the tires around pilot season.

Spy is ABC’s remake of a British show of the same name. Jeong will be playing the role of the “Examiner” in the show about a father (Rob Cordry) who inadvertently joins the Secret Service to impress his son.

It’s unclear if Jeong would leave Community if the Spy pilot is picked up for a series. There is usually very little assured about TV pilots anyway. It’s also entirely possible that Jeong’s deal with the new sitcom is the fairly typical “holding deal” where the actor can easily slide back into their previous show should the new show not get picked up.

Still an actor, albeit a supporting actor, jumping ship is yet another blow to Community’s inauspicious renewal chances. After a slight ratings boost for the season four premiere, the show’s ratings for the most recent episode cratered to a series low.

With almost every NBC show hitting ratings lows across the board, however, there’s still hope.
