After conquering stop-motion claymation back in season 2, Community will be trying out another medium in an upcoming season 4 episode: puppetry.

The cast and crew teased the puppet revelation and a whole host of other season 4 (and potentially season 5) tidbits at this year’s PaleyFest yesterday.

According to Deadline, the excited casts brought their puppet doppelgangers onstage to reveal the news. The episode will air in April, and although there’s no word on exactly when or what it will entail, it will feature the previously announced guest star Jason Alexander (as a live-action actor, not a puppet).

They also shared a clip of the the show’s intro being sung by the puppets and Yvette Nicole Brown said the concept was her favorite of the season. It’s hard to imagine a scenario in which an all-puppet episode (plus George Costanza from Seinfeld) won’t be at the very least interesting.

Showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port also had to address the inevitable questions about the show’s two high profile departures: creator Dan Harmon and star Chevy Chase. Guarascio credited the cast for helping ease the transition to the post-Harmon era and also, while referencing Chase, may have revealed the show’s plan to replace him should the show be granted a fifth season. Actor Fred Willard was on hand as Chase’s stand-in for line-readings from “History 101,” an episode where Willard appeared as an actual stand-in for Chase’s character Pierce in Abed’s sitcom fantasies.

Executive producer Tristram Shapeero said that Willard is “such a gentleman to work with,” and should the show go on they’ll “have to cook something up” for him. Since Willard was one of Harmon’s first choices for the role of Pierce, it would be fitting if he could replace the departed Pierce in the show’s fifth season.
