After the news broke that Sony Pictures Television had chosen to replace creator Dan Harmon as Community’s showrunner, and Harmon blogged candidly about the process of his firing, the stars and crew of the show, as well as many celebrity fans, have shared their feelings on the matter via social media.

Many of the cast paid tribute to Harmon and his creative vision:

While the cast kept their messages to fairly uncontroversial ‘thank you’s, it is clear that the Community family is not happy with this development. Chris McKenna, who penned the show’s Hugo-award nominated “Remedial Chaos Theory” has chosen to quit Community rather than continue the show without Harmon, and other staff writers Emily Cutler, Megan Ganz and Dino Stamatopoulos (who also played Starburns) all made their dismay and disapproval known.

Head to Dino’s twitter to read his frankly NSFW rant lashing out at Sony Pictures Television and NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt.

Celebrity fans of the show also expressed their support for Harmon, including these below:

Glee star Iqbal Theba, who also played Abed’s father on Community:

Patton Oswalt:

Seth Green:

Lost creator Damon Lindelof:

Best-selling author and Doctor Who writer, Neil Gaiman:

You know that bit a few days ago where I volunteered to write an Inspector Spacetime bit for Community if they took Karen G up on her offer to guest-Amy-Pond it?

That statement is, I am afraid, no longer operative.

These are just a few of the big names in the entertainment community who have expressed distaste for Sony’s move. The cast themselves, who are presumably all under contract for Community‘s 13-episode fourth season, were all quite careful in what they said, but the writers mentioned above, as well as many of the guest stars and crew, have all been rather more blatant in expressing their feelings about the situation and what they think of a Harmon-less Community.

After working so hard to get that fourth season, losing Harmon is obviously a real blow to the Community community (yes, we said it) and it leaves us asking the question of whether season 4 will, in any way, stay true to Harmon’s vision, because it sure sounds like everyone involved is very disenchanted. It will be interesting to see who is still around by the time season 4 goes into production, or whether anyone else from the show will follow in McKenna’s footsteps. It will also be interesting to see what Sony Pictures Television makes of this outpouring of what can almost be referred to as grief from not only the fandom but from their own cast and employees.

Do we even want our six seasons and a movie if this is the way it’s going to be? Way to Britta it, Sony.
