Community has cast two network TV veterans to portray new characters in the upcoming season 6 on Yahoo Screen. Take that, City College. Real network TV stars!

It seems like the cast of Community is in a constant state of flux. Chevy Chase and Donald Glover are long gone. John Oliver, Jonathan Banks and most recently (and upsettingly) Yvette Nicole Brown joined them on the way out. At least that means the show gets to constantly cycle in some fresh blood – something that’s not wildly unrealistic for a two-year college.

The two newbies are Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) and all-encompassing ethereal voice that reverberates through your sternum, Keith David (Enlisted).

Brewster will play Francesca “Frankie” Dart, a consultant brought in to change help Greendale operate like a normal school. David will play retired scientist Elroy Patashnik though there’s no word on whether he’ll be a teacher or a student or both.

Both come with a solid pedigree and should be excellent choices but strangely both have already been involved with Community in the past. Brewster guest starred as IT department head Debra Chambers in “Analysis of Cork-Based Networking.”

I had no recollection of this but there it is, right on her IMDB page and everything. David was, unforgettably, the soulful-voiced narrator of the Pillows and Blankets Civil War episodes.

It will be interesting to see how Brewster and David will fit into the ensemble and replace the departing Brown and Banks. But more importantly the news brings us one step closer to the day where a news organization mistakenly posts a picture of David Keith instead of Keith David.

What do you think of the new casting decisions for ‘Community’?
