Community season 5, episode 13, “Basic Sandwich (Part 2),” airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The Save Greendale committee must live up to its name on the season 5 finale.

And just like that, after tonight we are only one season and one movie away.

Community has taken a weird, winding road but this season stands out as the most improbable. The absence of two stars (Chevy Chase and Donald Glover) and the return of the prodigal showrunner in Dan Harmon has led to an exciting, at times bizarre season 5. It’s only fitting that the season should end tonight with the “Save Greendale” committee trying to save Greendale once and for all.

Of course, they already “saved” Greendale in one sense, they just did too good a job, making the weird little community college actually profitable to seek. Whoops.

Tonight, Annie and Abed will continue their mission of finding original Greendale Dean Borchert’s buried treasure to save the school. Shirley and Hickey (who received a bit of the short shrift in last week’s episode) must locate the school’s blueprints.

Chang, as he is oft to do, has become a turncoat, working with Subway to make sure the sale of the school goes off without a hitch.

But most intriguingly Jeff must consider his job offer from Subway, and Britta must consider Jeff’s shocking marriage proposal to her. Sure, she’s already said yes. But the length between episodes is an eternity in sitcom world.

It promises to be an explosive end to another fascinating season of one of TV’s most ambitious sitcoms.
