Community season 5, episode 10, “Advanced Advanced Dungeons and Dragons” airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. It’s time for the return of a Community favorite: Dungeons and Dragons.

For two weeks in a row Community has welcomed famous TV writers to Greendale in Mitchell Hurwitz (Arrested Development) and Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad). This week more TV royalty arrives with Mr. Show with Bob and David creator and all-around comedic superstar David Cross.

Unlike Hurwitz and Gilligan, however, Cross will be portraying a crucial character in the Community mythos: Professor Hickey’s son.

But let’s not bury the lead, Cross as Hickey’s son means the return of an old Community favorite. Dungeons and Dragons.

Per NBC’s official synopsis:

“When Professor Hickey reveals that his estranged son (David Cross) has had a baby, the gang decides to help them reunite through a game of dungeons and dragons.”

This is why people love television, and Community, in particular. What is the best avenue to confront real problems and potential childhood trauma? Why, Dungeons and Dragons, of course!

Let’s hope “Advanced Advanced Dungeons and Dragons” can reach the same heights that “Advanced” in season 2 did.
