Arrested Development star David Cross will be guest starring in season 5 of Community in a long-awaited sequel to the “Advanced Dungeons and Dragons” episode from season 3.

Community is one step closer to its goal of hiring every good actor or comedian on the planet to appear in season 5 with the news that David Cross will join this upcoming season for a one episode arc. That Cross will appear in the just announced “sequel” to the popular Dungeons and Dragons episode is just gravy.

Cross will play Hank Hickey, the “bitterly estranged” son of Jonathan Banks’ previously announced character, Professor Hickey. He will join the study group for “at the very least, the second most important game of Dungeons & Dragons ever.”

Community creator Dan Harmon has had a strong connection with Arrested Development in the past, appearing in the fourth season of the series (he pops up in the second episode as an employee of Oscar and George’s “Sweat and Squeeze” business venture). And previous to Cross’ hiring, it was announced that Arrested Development creator Mitchell Hurwitz would be guest staring in this season of Community as well.

Cross joining Hurtwitz as a guest star brings the grand total of “actors from recent television classics guest starring on Community with creators of said recent television classics” to two as Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan will also be joining Breaking Bad star Jonathan Banks this season.

Keep in mind that all these guest stars are slated to appear in a relatively short 13-episode season. That’s one way to make up for the loss of two core characters in Troy and Pierce.
