Community is going animated again for its next episode “G.I. Jeff” and now we have our first look at the Greendale characters in a G.I. Joe universe.

Community is taking a break this week but thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first look at its next episode, “G.I. Jeff,” an ambitious animated endeavor.

Younger Community watchers may not be entirely familiar with the G.I. Joe cartoons of the old* but the popular toys that spawned an equally popular G.I. Joe cartoon series.

For its third animated outing (after the second season Christmas claymation episode and season 3’s 8-bit video game style), Community will be turning the Greendale gang into chiseled-jawed Joes.

*Unless you’re familiar with the brilliant G.I. Joe PSA parodies of Internet yore.

There is no full description of the plot yet, but writer Chris McKenna told EW that it involves a Wizard of Oz style journey for Jeff to get to the bottom of something.

Perhaps more importantly, however, we do have the ‘Joe-ized’ version of several characters’ names.

Jeff is “Jeff Wingman” (as if “Winger” wasn’t a cool enough surname already) and gets a backpack with wings.

Annie is “Tight Ship,” Britta is “Buzzkill,” (naturally) and Shirley is “Three Kids.”
