Community creator joined cast members at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss how the show will change for Yahoo and whether Donald Glover could return.

Sony Television and Yahoo rescued Community for a season 6 on June 30. This was great news for Community fans for obvious reasons but also because it meant another San Diego Comic-Con appearance for the popular, fan-friendly show. Creator Dan Harmon, writer Chris McKenna and actors Joel McHale, Gillian Jacob, Jim Rash and Dino Stamatopoulos (Rash and Stamatopoulos are also writers)

According to reports, the panel was as bright and bubbly as usual (including a hearty “f**k you, network television” from Joel McHale) but lacking in much real news due to the pick-up being so recent.

Still Dan Harmon was able to get a clearer picture of what season 6 will look like – the theme being: what the other seasons look like. Yahoo won’t be releasing every episode at once, per the Netflix structure so fans will still get to talk about each episode uninterrupted for at least a week. And Harmon said, he didn’t plan to exploit the freedom for profanity he now has.

“My philosophy is: attempt to make the same show, and let the lack of boundaries kind of make themselves felt, instead of just going, ‘We can make the episode 49 minutes long, and say the f-word the whole time,'” Harmon said.

Harmon also revealed that Jonathan Banks likely won’t return and while it’s “contractually possible” for John Oliver to come back, they’d have to work around his Last Week Tonight schedule. He also did have a very telling and interesting answer for the potential return of Captain Troy Barnes (and hopefully by extension First Mate LeVar Burton).

“Troy’s out there somewhere. He may be in peril. That’s what movies are made of.”

According to Harmon, season 6 will be debuting sometime “after Christmas.” Better clear the next 12 months of our calendars just to be safe.
