Prepare to be schooled on international politics – but in a fun way! Actor and former White House employee Kal Penn is working with NBC to produce a comedy series inspired by the United Nations.

Deadline has the scoop, and describes the series as:

A single-camera workplace comedy set at the United Nations, with Penn playing a key assistant to the U.S. ambassador.

Others involved with this include playwright/comedian Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Scot Armstrong and Ravi Nandan, and it will be produced by UMS.

The UN, or United Nations, is the international organization comprising of delegations from 193 member states. It exists to promote and further international cooperation, to secure human rights, and to fight for global peace. You can read more about the UN and its missions and functions here at the official website.

Politics and humour can go well together, as we’ve seen with shows like Yes, Minister and even Spin City, and this is an interesting new development. Some say that entertainment TV can hardly be educating, but seeing as Kal Penn has very real experience working within the field, and that the comedy will “reflect some of Penn’s experiences working on the campaign trail as well as at the White House,” we’re betting that this will be both fun and educational!

Penn only recently resigned from his position as Associate Director in the Office of Public Engagement, and will mark his return to television with a recurring role on How I Met Your Mother.
