The actor who plays Harrison on ABC’s Scandal, Columbus Short, has departed the show following recent allegations of abuse.

Short issued a statement Friday afternoon in which he revealed he would depart after three seasons on the Shonda Rhimes drama.

“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for three years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today,” the actor said. “I would like to first thank Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you GLADIATORS, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the Scandal series.”

He continued, “I have enjoyed every single minute of it. Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful.”

Short’s wife recently put a restraining order out against him after he allegedly threatened to kill her with a knife. In addition, the actor is currently facing other domestic violence and abuse charges.

It’s too early to know if the character will be written out of the show or if ABC will decide to use a different actor to portray Harrison. Based on Short’s statement (“the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit”), it sounds like the character will be gone for good.

The character was last seen during the Scandal season 3 finale. During the episode he realized that it was Rowan who was responsible for killing Fitz’s child Jerry, as well as Adnan. The latter was a romantic interest for Harrison during the back half of the season.

Scandal season 4 is expected to premiere this fall on ABC.
