Fans of BBC’s The Living and the Dead received some sad news today, when we learned that the paranormal drama series will not continue.

Starring Charlotte Spencer and Merlin‘s Colin Morgan, The Living and the Dead was an ambitious supernatural drama that immediately found a dedicated fanbase. Unfortunately, The BBC has announced that it will not revive the series for a second season.

The six-episode season 1 follows Nathan and Charlotte Appleby, who move to an isolated part of the English countryside after inheriting the Appleby family estate.

Nathan, a psychologist, begins treating a disturbed local girl, only to discover that there are far more sinister forces at work.

Nathan and Charlotte are drawn further and further into the supernatural forces that haunt the village, all the while trying to cope with their own loss, and the handling of their new farm.

The series was created by Ashley Pharoah, (Ashes to Ashes), and also starred Nicholas Woodeson.

After news of the show’s cancellation broke, a BBC spokesperson told Digital Spy, “We are very proud of The Living and the Dead and would like to thank Ashley Pharoah and the fantastic cast and crew. However, in order to create room for new series and to keep increasing the range of drama on BBC One, it won’t be returning.”

It’s a shame that the promising series was shafted in an effort to make room for new series, but we wish the cast and crew all the best with their future projects!
