Oscar Wilde was born in 1854 and died in 1900, at 46 years of age.

A homosexual man in the 19th century, Wilde faced many hardships even as he continued to produce some of the best literature of his time.

He was arrested and imprisoned for “gross indecency” after a his affair with Lord Alfred Douglas was brought to light, and the experience would haunt him for the rest of his life.

After serving two years of hard labor, he left for France, and never returned to Ireland or England again.

We do not yet know what role Colin Morgan will play in the movie, but have reached out for comment.

Also starring are Edwin Thomas, Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson, Beatrice Dalle, and John Standing.

The Happy Prince and Other Tales is also the title of one of Wilde’s novels. He also penned such classics as The Picture of Dorian Gray and the play The Importance of Being Earnest.
