Colin Firth is gearing up to square off against zombies for his next film.

According to Deadline, actor Colin Firth has signed on to star in a brand new action comedy zombie movie coming down the pipeline at STXfilms and Tencent.

Tentatively titled New York Will Eat You Alive, the upcoming action comedy is based off of the hit Zombie Brothers digital comic series, which has also been turned into a popular anime series over in China.

The digital comic series originally launched back in 2011 and follows a group of New York City dwellers just trying to survive amidst a massive zombie apocalypse. While traveling around the Big Apple, the group also happens to discover the source of the apocalypse they’re currently living through.

Behind the camera, the studios have tapped Isn’t It Romantic vet Todd Strauss-Schulson to serve as director for New York Will Eat You Alive. Meanwhile, Alex Rubens has written the screenplay, with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand overseeing revisions.

Currently, there’s no word on who exactly Firth will be playing in the zombie action comedy, but it’s clear that STXfilms is thrilled over the prospect of having the actor on board.

In a statement announcing Colin Firth’s involvement with the project, STXFilms chairman Adam Foglesong said: “We always wanted to cast this in a way that would give life to the source material and elevate the action and you can’t achieve that goal any better than hiring Colin Firth.”

“From The King’s Speech to Kingsman, Colin always gives an Oscar-caliber performance,” continued Foglesong. “We’re thrilled to be reuniting with him on New York Will Eat You Alive in a role that will allow him to have fun while showcasing his deadpan humor and comic timing.”

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect to see New York Will Eat You Alive hit the big screen.
