The british musical group’s latest album, Myto Xyloto, continues to impress both critics and fans alike.  It has even broken an Itunes record!

Wow!  What a week for Coldplay.  Their third studio album, Myto Xyloto, is performing extremely well.  So well, in fact, that it has broken the iTunes record for weekly digital album sales.  In its first week of release, the album moved 447,000 units, also earning them the top spot on the Billboard charts.

Myto Xyloto also had the years third largest sales week for an album.  The only albums that performed better were Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV with 964,000 and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way with 1.1 million.  As far as their genre of music is concerned, the last rock album that debuted anywhere near the same sales figures as Myto Xyloto was U2’s No Line On the Horizon with 484,000 in 2009.

Also, Coldplay now belongs to the elite clique of rock stars that have had three albums debut with at least 400,000 units sold.  Member’s of this exclusive clubs include U2, The Beatles, Dave Matthews Band, and Metallica.
