Coldplay has released a one minute, thirty second clip of their new track “Atlas” which will be the lead single for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire film soundtrack.

UPDATE: The song has been officially released! Listen/download now.

The full song will be released tomorrow, September 6.

In August we learned that Coldplay would be a part of the highly-anticipated soundtrack. This is significant for several reasons. It is the first time that Coldplay has written a song specifically for a film, and it is also the first new Coldplay song to be released following their 2011 album, Mylo Xyloto.

The announcement was accompanied by a photo of handwritten lyrics to the song, and later, the album artwork featuring Katniss Everdeen.

News of the release resulted in an explosion of activity amongst Coldplayers, who had been relatively dormant on Tumblr following the wrap-up of the Mylo Xyloto tour, and Hunger Games fans alike. Chris Martin is also a fan of the book series, which makes the union of the two fandoms even more exciting.

The dystopian franchise is not new to using big names such as Coldplay for their soundtracks. Taylor Swift’s collaboration with indie folk duo, The Civil Wars, was a hit within the fandom and music community. And Arcade Fire’s foray into the actual film score with their fascistic anthem “Horn of Plenty” wowed critics.

Initially, “Atlas” had an expected release date of August 26 but this was pushed back into early September.

Coldplayers and Tributes can stave off the hunger for new music by listening to the short clip on repeat until tomorrow’s full unveiling. And trawling Tumblr, of course!
