In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Clark Gregg teased that someone will die on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Gregg, who plays Director Phil Coulson, visited Kimmel as part of the major Marvel promotion in swing for Captain America: Civil War. Gregg claims that he has no information on how the highly-anticipated film will impact Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but he wasn’t quite as coy about other events of the series.

After sharing a touching clip from next week’s episode, titled “The Team,” Gregg admits that there is a certain trepidation around set nowadays… and apparently for good reason.

“People will be working and having a good day, and then all of a sudden you look, and all the executive producers are by the monitor,” he says, evoking his castmates’ scramble to go unnoticed by the Powers That Be on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always work.

“Yes. Yes,” Gregg said, in response to Kimmel’s probing. “It might be that someone’s gonna die.”

This news isn’t necessarily shocking of itself, as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been preparing viewers for such a development since the show returned in March. In last night’s episode, Daisy stated empirically that someone on the team was going to die, though she did not know who or when.

Still, it is slightly (just slightly) anxiety-provoking to see this confirmed from a real-world source. It was nice to hang on to hope for a little while… like disaster could be averted by an unforeseen visit by a certain Doctor?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 3×17, “The Team,” airs Tuesday, April 19 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
