While James Cameron’s Avatar sequels are still a few years away, Cirque de Soleil is planning an aerial show based on the Na’vi universe.

Cirque de Soleil announced Tuesday that they will be staging TORUK – The First Flight in the fall, in collaboration with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment.

The Avatar-inspired show is set thousands of years before the events of Avatar, and tells the story of the first time a Na’vi rode a leonopteryx (the winged animal known in the Na’vi language as “Toruk”).

The official description of TORUK — The First Flight reads:

TORUK – The First Flight envisions a world beyond imagination set thousands of years before the events depicted in the film. The word Toruk, in the Na’vi language, refers to the great leonopteryx, the mighty red and orange predator that rules the Pandoran sky. Central in Na’vi lore and culture, this fascinating creature is crucial to the Na’vi clans’ sense of destiny and interconnectedness – and is about to be ridden for the very first time by a Na’vi.”

Cirque de Soleil will take the show across North America in the fall of 2015; the tour is set to start in November.

Starting April 30, you can pre-order tickets for shows in the following U.S. and Canadian cities: Lafayette (Louisiana), Montreal (Quebec), Auburn Hills (Michigan), North Little Rock (Arkansas), North Charleston (South Carolina), Tulsa (Oklahoma), Kansas City (Missouri), Louisville (Kentucky), Cincinnati (Ohio), Hamilton (Ontario), London (Ontario), Providence (Rhode Island), and Raleigh (North Carolina).

We learned in January that Cameron’s first Avatar sequel has been delayed another year due to script rewrites; the first movie in the three-part sequel series will now premiere in December 2017.

But James Cameron is confident you won’t mind the long wait once you see Avatar 2. When talking about the movie last year, Cameron claimed it would make you, “sh** with your mouth wide open.”

While we wait (with a certain level of trepidation, because that does not sound pleasant), we’re glad Cirque de Soleil is taking on the universe and exploring the rich Na’vi backstory in such a unique way.
