The next movie in the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Silver Chair, will mark a new beginning for the fantasy series.

Speaking today to Collider, producer Mark Gordon revealed that the fourth Chronicles of Narnia movie will take advantage of the time jump in between The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair to reboot the story with new characters from the world of Narnia.

“It’s all going to be a brand new franchise. All original,” said Gordon. “All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from.”

Later, he told Collider the “original characters” will come from “the world of Narnia,” meaning these won’t be entirely new characters who we haven’t heard of before.

The reboot for Narnia comes after the rights to the series changed hands in 2013. Last June we had heard that screenwriter David McGee had finished writing The Silver Chair’s script.

Just last month, McGee made new comments about the script and its loyalty to the novel by C.S. Lewis.

“It’s never quite possible to make the film exactly what the book is; it has to change for a visual medium in some ways more greatly than others,” he told Narnia.com in December. “So, what I do hope is that you’ll find the whole story of The Silver Chair is in the movie – and very plainly in the movie. And we’re going to try to express that story to the very best of our abilities. We have to because he [motions at stuffed lion toy in background] is looking over my shoulder all the time, of course. So I think the answer would be yes, but with modifications. It’s a tricky question, but we’ll do our very best to make sure you see the story of The Silver Chair in the movie of The Silver Chair.”

The fourth (or should we call this the first?) film in the series will be the first new Narnia movie since 2010’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader starring Ben Barnes (Caspian), Skandar Keynes (Edmund), Georgie Henley (Lucy), and Will Poulter (Eustace).

Today’s comments from Gordon appear to suggest that none of these actors will be back for the new movie.
