Prepare to re-experience the Dark Knight trilogy in glorious 4K: Director Christopher Nolan has confirmed that he’s shining up the Batmobile (among other things) for a new release.

Even as the DC movie universe competently continues to do its thing, Batman fans might still be wistfully longing for the good old days of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

The movies, which might go down in history as the best superhero trilogy ever made, definitely still hold up as visual masterpieces, but Nolan himself is interested in updating the look and feel with the latest 4K technology, which will allegedly bring the viewing experience even closer to his original vision.

Nolan has confirmed this good news to BadTaste.it, via Collider, although we might have to sit tight for a bit before the movies make it to our eyeballs.

See what Nolan has to say:

Nolan, who is a fervent champion of shooting on film rather than digital, says of the new technology, “The wonderful thing about 4K technology is it gets closer to the resolution that we shot in film. Photochemically finished films of 35mm have at least 6K resolution, IMAX films, upwards of 18K. So as home video formats keep evolving, 4K — particularly 4K with HDR — it allows us to give somebody at home an experience that’s much much closer to what it was like to see the original film prints as projected on film.”

We can’t wait!
