Saruman would be proud: The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit actor Christopher Lee has released a new Christmas song. It’s heavy metal, like the best Christmas songs are.

This is the third year in a row seasoned actor Sir Christopher Lee (aged 92, not that that’s slowing him down) has released a heavy metal Christmas song.

In 2012, Lee came out with a super creepy, head-banging version of “The Little Drummer Boy” and a more upbeat “Silent Night.”

Last year, Lee mashed up “Jingle Hell” and “My Way” (the latter of which has clearly been begging for a metal cover).

And this year’s wonder is titled “Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing.” It appears to be a twist on “Hark! Hear the Angels Sing.”

You can listen to a snippet of the new song below, in a video which also features clips from his previous songs. “Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing” starts at the 1:40 mark:

In a press release, Sir Christopher says of the song, “It’s light-hearted, joyful and fun. It’s a band singing on how metal should be played, the effect it has on the band and its listeners.”

It’s clear that Lee is having a lot of fun creating this music, and we hope that he keeps releasing songs like this!

The actor admits that he’s very consciously embracing the lighter side of life. “At my age, the most important thing for me is to keep active by doing things that I truly enjoy,” Lee says. “I do not know how long I am going to be around, so every day is a celebration and I want to share it with my fans.”

How wonderful. We hope you’ll join Christopher Lee in his heavy metal Christmas celebration.

“Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing” is available to purchase on iTunes, Amazon and Google Music.
