Christoph Waltz has long been rumored to play Blofeld in the upcoming James Bond movie Spectre, but — according to him — those rumors are untrue.

Although Christoph Waltz has been billed as “Franz Oberhauser” in the 24th James Bond movie, titled Spectre, the entire fan base seems to be in agreement that he’s actually playing Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Bond’s long-time enemy.

With the return of the Spectre organization (first introduced in Doctor No), everyone is expecting Blofeld to resurface, complete with his white Persian cat and creepy gaze.

Christoph Waltz certainly has the caliber to fill such an important part, which has previously been inhabited by Donald Pleasence, Telly Savalas, Charles Gray and Max von Sydow.

But according to the actor, the rumors of his character’s true identity are “absolutely untrue.”

“The name of my character is Franz Oberhauser,” Waltz insists in a GQ Magazine interview (quoted by The Hollywood Reporter).

He goes on to offer very high praise for Spectre, saying, “The thing about Spectre is that it is not the work of hack writers. It does not have a hack director. The actors are not hams. The action sequences in Mexico are extravagant to say the least.”

Waltz continues, “The scenes in Austria are traditional Bond action in the snow. These films with Daniel Craig have shifted the tone. They don’t depend on a set formula that forces actors simply to go through the motions.”

Do you believe Waltz is telling the truth, or could he be trying to maintain the illusion? It is very possible that his character’s name is Frank Oberhauser; Blofeld could have picked up an alias or something.

Either way, we hope to see the return of one of Bond’s most iconic and mysterious villains in Spectre.

The movie hits cinemas on Nov 6, 2015.
