The Wrinkle in Time cast is beginning to round out nicely, especially now that we have a lead. Plus, Chris Pine has also joined the project!

To recap the recent casting news, we have Storm Reid in the leading role of Meg for the Ava DuVernay-directed film. Joining her will be Oprah (Mrs. Which), Reese Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit), and Mindy Kaling (Mrs. Who).

Thursday saw the casting of Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Meg’s mother, Dr. Kate Murray, a microbiologist. Here’s a tweet about it from the director:

Now, Deadline is reporting that Chris Pine will play Mr. Murray, Meg’s father.

A synopsis for the book by Madeline L’Engle reads:

It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.

“Wild nights are my glory,” the unearthly stranger told them. “I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me be on my way. Speaking of way, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract.”

Meg’s father had been experimenting with this fifth dimension of time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Now the time has come for Meg, her friend Calvin, and Charles Wallace to rescue him. But can they outwit the forces of evil they will encounter on their heart-stopping journey through space.

Therefore, if the film follows the same track as the book, it is Pine’s character that will go missing, leading the young Meg on an adventure of a lifetime.
