So… Chris Hemsworth went to prison once. (For research, but still.) And it turns out the inmates weren’t big fans of Thor.

Chris Hemsworth is currently out promoting his latest movie In the Heart of the Sea, and last Friday, his promotional tour took him to the British talk show The Graham Norton Show.

The Thor actor shared a funny story about that time he went to prison — to prepare for his role in Blackhat — and got heckled by the inmates:

“I was researching a film and we had to basically go in and research what the inside of a prison looked like and speak with prisoners who wanted to talk to us,” said Hemsworth, who admitted that he’d assumed the prisoners wouldn’t have seen Thor. Well… he was wrong.

“The moment I started walking through the cells … I just started getting heckled, ‘Yo, Thor’s here man. Yo, Thor. YO, THOR!’ Where’s your hammer, man?’” he recalled.

They weren’t all Thor-haters, though — some of the inmates weren’t opposed to getting more familiar with Thor and his hammer. “Come spend some time in my cell, baby!” one prisoner apparently shouted to him.

“It wasn’t a whole lot of research,” he admitted.

Chris Hemsworth’s In the Heart of the Sea hits cinemas on Friday, December 11.

We’ll have to wait a bit longer for Thor’s return to the big screen, however: The character is one of only two Avengers not back for Captain America: Civil War.

At least Thor and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) are set to co-star in Thor: Ragnarok, which is releases in 2017.
