Chris Evans might be picking up his Captain America shield one more time.

The conclusion of Avengers: Endgame left Marvel fans feeling as though Chris Evans’ journey as Steve Rogers had reached its natural end. Now, it sounds like Evans might just be returning to reprise his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all.

Deadline reports that the actor could very well be reprising his Captain America role in some form as part of “at least one Marvel property, with the door open for a second film.”

Fans shouldn’t expect a third Cap film, however. A source close to the project tells the outlet that if Evans were to return, it would be in more of a supporting role, “like what Robert Downey Jr. did after Iron Man 3, appearing in such films as Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Even so, the fact that Evans might very well be considering returning to the role is certainly cause for excitement for fans of the MCU. Especially given that in addition to how Steve Rogers’ story wrapped at the end of Endgame, Evans has gone on the record multiple times that his time playing the star-spangled hero had come to an end.

There’s also the matter of how Chris Evans returning as Captain America will work given that the end of Steve Roger’s story arc in the MCU found the character passing the shield down to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson.

Either way, we’ll be curious to see if today’s rumors regarding Chris Evans’ grand return to the MCU turn out to be true.
