Captain America: Civil War star Chris Evans, who leads Team Captain America against Team Iron Man in the Cap threequel, says he’d be Team Iron Man. What?!

Evans was asked during a Civil War press conference on Monday about which side he’d be on in real life. Surprisingly, he didn’t side with his own character.

“Team Iron Man,” he said firmly. “There would have to be some sort of responsibility, you have to answer to somebody, you can’t just let this group of vigilantes answer to themselves. The truth is if there really were Avengers I would be Team Iron Man, I would. I mean who wouldn’t?!”

Welp, this makes it hard to feel like we should be Team Cap if even Captain America himself can’t be Team Cap.

He does have a good point, but it’s hard to justify saying no to Captain America, who is a firm believer in letting the Avengers handle themselves. Besides, it’s not like the Avengers want to cause trouble. They only fight because there’s evil afoot! In fact, if Marvel’s finest weren’t around, the world probably would’ve ceased to exist long ago.

Thanks, Avengers.

Whether or not the Avengers should be under control of government agencies is what sets off a battle in Captain America 3 led by Cap and Iron Man. Like Chris Evans versus his own character, the Avengers will be disagreeing with one another, and a big fight will ensue.

As the latest Civil War trailer first revealed, Iron Man will be enlisting Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) to help him fight Team Cap.

Next up from Marvel: Captain America 4: Chris Evans versus Captain America?

Civil War opens in theaters next Friday, May 6 in the United States.

How do you feel about Chris Evans siding against his on-screen alter ego?
