Captain America’s Captain Marvel is Brie Larson, according to Chris Evans. Now say that 10 times fast.

A week ago we reported that Marvel’s top choice for the coveted role of Captain Marvel is allegedly Brie Larson, the quickly rising Hollywood star who won an Oscar this year for her incredible performance in Room.

This came after an earlier report had Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation‘s Rebecca Ferguson pegged for the job, but by all accounts, the Brie Larson rumor sounds a lot more probable — and, despite her age, she strongly resembles Carol Danvers from the comics.

Larson is a comedian, too, which certainly isn’t gonna hurt in the MCU. (We can already imagine her hilarious exchanges with Ant-Man and Spider-Man!)

And, as we learned this weekend, Larson already has one Avenger rooting for her: None other than the other Captain, Chris Evans.

Evans was one of many Marvel stars in attendance at Wizard World Philadelphia, and during a panel, they were all asked about Brie Larson potentially getting the role.

“I just heard about that!” he enthused (via The Mary Sue). “I really hope that happens. I love Brie Larson. We did a movie together back in ’09. We did Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. [audience cheers] I cannot say enough about Brie Larson. I think she’s phenomenal, and I really hope that happens.”

Anthony Mackie, meanwhile, joked that they should shake things up and cast a guy in the role. The audience swiftly booed that idea.

It seems like everyone is pretty much on board with the impossible-not-to-like Brie Larson becoming the first female superhero in the MCU to get her own solo film. The only major complaint is her age: At 26, Larson would not only be the second-youngest Avenger after the high school-aged Spider-Man, but she’s far below Carol Danvers herself, who’s usually depicted in her mid-30s.

It would definitely be nice to see the MCU introduce an actress who’s in the same age bracket as the plethora of male heroes, to help fix the glaring gender imbalance. But if Marvel is intent on casting young, Brie Larson is still an excellent choice.

Do you agree with Chris Evans that Brie Larson should become Captain Marvel?
