Chris Columbus has signed on to produce the adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel I Kill Giants. Anders Walter is directing.

Two-time Harry Potter director Chris Columbus (who’s done another couple of small projects over years… Home Alone, Rent, no big deal) will serve as producer on the movie version of I Kill Giants, SlashFilm reports.

I Kill Giants is a graphic novel by Joe Kelly and J.M. Niimura. Kelly will also be writing the screenplay for the film. It has won a number of awards, and been named one of the 10 best graphic novels for teens by the Young Adult Library Services Association.

The story follows a young, geeky girl, who is convinced that giants are real. When they actually show up, it’s up to her to fight them.

Director Anders Walter hails from Denmark, and in 2014 he won an Academy Award for the short film Helium.

Columbus’ fellow producer Justin Nappi says of the director, “[Columbus and I] both feel strongly that strongly that Anders has the depth and vision needed to bring the amazing story and characters of I Kill Giants to life. Anders has a unique understanding of children and their uncanny ability to face life’s most difficult challenges.”

Casting for the movie has already begun, and filming is set to start later this year.
