RJ Cutler is currently a producer on the television show Nashville and Chloe Moretz can be seen in the upcoming Carrie, and Movie 43. Both, however, are eyeing up Summit Entertainment’s adaption of Gayle Forman’s If I Stay.

If I Stay was optioned in 2009 and this is the first talk about the film moving forward. RJ Cutler is said to be eyeing up the director position. This would be his first time working on a narrative feature. He has worked in television and on documentaries such as The September Issue and Ten Days That Unexpectedly Changed America.

Chloe Moretz is said to be eyeing the lead of Mia, a classical musician who is in a tragic car accident with her family. The novel is told from Mia’s point of view both in flashbacks and as she struggles with the decision of if she should stay or let go after she has been badly hurt in the accident. The story is touching and thought provoking.

According to Variety, Denise DiNovi and Alison Greenspan of DiNovi Pictures will produce, with Lionsgate production prexy Erik Feig and senior veep Gillian Bohrer overseeing the project for the studio.

Other important roles to cast are Mia’s rocker boyfriend Adam as well as Mia’s best friend, Kim, and her grandfather.
