The (now suspended) marketing for Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs portrayed some troubling ideas, and the film’s star, Chloë Grace Moretz, is speaking out.

Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs, an animated film created by Locus Creative Studios out of South Korea, used body-shaming materials to market their Snow White reimagining recently at the Cannes Film Festival. The film stars the vocal talents of Chloë Grace Moretz, who you might remember from movies such as If I Stay and Kick-Ass.

While not much is known about the film, including its release dates, the tagline for the film raises a few eyebrows all on it’s own: “What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?” While it would be hard to dream up marketing materials that could make that tagline seem less problematic, the promotions used for the film depicted a tall, slender woman as the ‘ideal’ Snow White character, while using a shorter, overweight version of Snow White as the ‘no longer beautiful’ example.

The star took to her Twitter to clear up her involvement in the ideas and visuals put forth by the marketing team, which is to say, she wasn’t involved. This comes as no surprise, as the promotional materials are hardly ever something the actors would be consulted about.

Ms. Moretz says it best in her three tweet series:

Will you be seeing ‘Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs’?
