With her E! contract nearing its end, talk show host Chelsea Handler is reportedly in talks with Netflix about a new gig.

The New York Post, who broke the news of Handler’s supposed Netflix deal, says that a format for her show has yet to be determined. If Handler were to create an unscripted talk show for Netflix, it would be the first time the streaming service has created an original series that that is not scripted.

Handler’s name was thrown into the ring as a potential heir to The Late Show after David Letterman announced his retirement last month, but that gig ended up going to Stephen Colbert.

A nightly or weekly talk show on Netflix would be an interesting addition to the service’s offerings if they chose to go that route. It would bring fans of Lately back to the site on a very regular basis – perhaps more regular than they already do.

Chelsea Lately will end later this year on E!.

Netflix has been on a roll lately with series announcements. Besides new seasons of House of Cards and Orange is the New Black this year, there are also plans for five original series with Marvel in the works. In addition, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are re-teaming for an original comedy series.
