The only silver lining to the otherwise devastating loss of Alaric Saltzman on The Vampire Diaries is that you can now catch Matt Davis on his new CW show, Cult.

The death of fan favorite character Alaric Saltzman on The Vampire Diaries at the end of season 3 was devastating for fans, particularly because Matt Davis was such a beloved addition to the cast. Shortly before his departure, talk began of a new pilot for him, entitled Cult. Since then, details have been scarce, besides a few vague trailers.

Well, good news Matt Davis fans, as you can now watch his new pilot, Cult, on cwtv.com and on Tuesday nights at 9pm on The CW. The show features Davis as a reporter that has fallen on hard times due to a former case and a concerned big brother when his younger sibling suddenly goes missing after a brief, alarming meeting over coffee.

In the pilot, Davis’ character, Jeff Sefton, begins the hunt to figure out just what has happened to his little brother and what he has gotten himself involved in. The show centers around a show within the show (also entitled Cult, on the CW, and with the same creator… confusing, I know), and the crazed fans surrounding the show that may have taken the obsession over the edge. There are some intense parallels between the events surrounding his brother’s disappearance and the show that he became obsessed with before he vanished, which leads Jeff to suspect a role-playing society may have had something to do with it, opening up a can of worms he may not be able to close.

Amidst a bevy of questions stemming from the pilot, one big mystery stands out: Who is this show’s creator, Steven Rae? Are we ever going to meet him? Why is he so secretive? Hopefully we will get answers to that and much, much more in many more episodes to come this season.

MATT DAVIS OF “THE VAMPIRE DIARIES” STARS IN A NEW DRAMA — Investigative journalist Jeff Sefton has learned to live with his younger brother Nate’s (guest star James Pizzinato “Alcatraz”) relentless string of obsessions, especially his latest rant that a hit TV show called “Cult” intends to harm him. When his brother mysteriously disappears, Jeff enlists Skye Yarrow, a young research assistant working on “Cult,” to help with his investigation into the dark underworld of the TV show and its rabid fans. Meanwhile, in the parallel worlds of the show-within-a-show, the cult’s ruthless leader, Billy Grimm, is played by actor Roger Reeves, a man whose primary agenda is winning back his former follower and lover, Kelly Collins, played by actress Marti Gerritsen. Since escaping from the cult, Kelly has become an LAPD detective who finds herself drawn back into an investigation of the group’s activities as she struggles to keep Billy at a safe distance. As the television show grows in popularity, cast members Roger and Marti begin to feel the effects in their “real” lives. Jason Ensler directed the episode written by Rockne S. O’Bannon.
