Hairspray and Smash songwriters Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman will pen songs for a musical adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

The musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book will not only feature songs by the Tony award-winning team, but will also be helmed by James Bond director Sam Mendes when he’s finished work on Skyfall. The script will be written by David Greig, while Peter Darling will provide the choreography. No cast members are currently in place.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tells the story of an impoverished young boy who wins a golden ticket, granting him access to a magical factory owned by the eccentric Willy Wonka.

According to Digital Spy, the musical will launch at the London Palladium on June 23, 2013. Tickets go on sale this October.
