Scholastic and Bloomsbury have shared a first look at the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition which is set to hit bookstore shelves this fall.

Harry Potter fans fell in love with the first Illustrated Edition by Jim Kay (and J.K. Rowling… obviously) last year, so now we’re all eagerly awaiting each forthcoming release. The publishers have promised that one new Illustrated Edition would be released each year, and so far they appear to be staying on track with that plan.

The Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition will be released this October. The cover features Harry, Ron, Fred, George and the Ford Anglia as they arrive at the Weasley’s Burrow. Take a look:

What’s notable about this cover is that the Weasley twins are appearing in the car with Harry and Ron, meaning that this cover is depicting the trip from Privet Drive. The original U.K. cover for this book, which depicts a similar scene, only showed Harry and Ron as they made their trip to Hogwarts.

This cover also depicts a totally different scene from the original U.S. cover, which depicted Harry, Ron, and Hermione leaving the Chamber of Secrets.

Pottermore and the publishers also unveiled a couple of first looks inside the book on Wednesday. One page features beautiful illustrations of phoenixes, including one who we assume is Fawkes. The Sorcerer’s Stone Illustrated Edition had a similar informational page within its book which offered a deeper look at the creatures in the Wizarding World.

The second Illustrated Edition in the Harry Potter series will also have a page on Mandrakes:

And a new portrait of Hagrid:

Chamber of Secrets’ Illustrated Edition features 115 illustrations by Jim Kay mixed in with J.K. Rowling’s complete story. You can pre-order now via Amazon!

As we’ve predicted previously, the number of illustrations is expected to grow per book as the books get longer. Sorcerer’s / Philosopher’s Stone had about 100 illustrations.

We hope the publishers (and Jim Kay’s wrists) can keep up with publishing one book a year. These books are the perfect holiday gifts for the Harry Potter fans in your life. Or, the perfect gift to treat yourself to each October.
