Alexandra Bracken’s novel The Darkest Minds has lined up a producer to adapt the book for Fox.

Chad Hodge, best known for creating the Fox television series Wayward Pines, will be adapting The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, The Hollywood Reporter states.

The Darkest Minds is the first in Bracken’s YA trilogy of the same name, which follows the life of 16-year-old Ruby as she escapes from a concentration camp for teenagers with special powers. The concentration camps were created because the children who survived a widespread pandemic developed supernatural abilities and were deemed too dangerous to interact with those who had no powers. The followup novel, Never Fade, continues Ruby’s story and introduces additional elements to make her world even more dangerous. Ruby also begins to question everything she’s been fighting for. Read our review of the sequel.

The final book in the series, From the Afterlight, will be released in October 2014. Stay tuned to Hypable for a review of the last installment!

Meanwhile, it should come as no surprise that Fox is continuing to adapt young adult series for the big screen. With The Maze Runner hitting theaters on September 19 and already creating quite a buzz, it makes sense that Fox would be looking into other popular tomes in the hopes of having a new franchise to tap into.

The Darkest Minds is unique in that it doesn’t shy away from the darker elements of the story, mainly the anxiety developed when children begin experiencing supernatural abilities. Family members turn on each other, and mothers and fathers choose to send their kids away, for fear of what could happen if they don’t.

We’re certainly looking forward to this adaptation, and while it’s still in the early stages, we’ll be sure to bring you new information as it develops.
