Queen Latifah is heading to network television.

According to Deadline, CBS is currently working on a reimagined reboot of popular 1980s series, The Equalizer.

The forthcoming drama, which has been given the green light by the network, will star Queen Latifah, who will also serve as an executive producer on the show.

The original iteration of The Equalizer aired via CBS for four seasons between the years of 1985 to 1989. Starring Edward Woodward, the series focused on a retired intelligence agent named Robert McCall. McCall, in turn, uses the skills he acquired from his mysterious former career to seek justice for the innocent.

Movie fans may be familiar with the feature film adaptation of The Equalizer, which debuted back in 2014 starring Denzel Washington. The film spawned a sequel which in turn was released just two years ago in 2018.

Similar to the original, the newest iteration of The Equalizer, coming down the pipeline at CBS, will also focus on an individual with special skills who uses them to help the helpless. This time around, that individual will be played by Queen Latifah herself, though there’s no further details with regards to how her character will differ from that of Woodward’s Robert McCall.

Behind the camera, the project comes from Andrew Marlowe (ABC’s Castle) and Terri Miller (ABC’s Take Two), both of whom are serving as co-writers.Also on board is original series co-creator Richard Lindheim, who will serve as an executive producer on the project alongside Latifah.

Other producers on the project include John Davis and Debra Martin Chase.

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect The Equalizer to make its grand return to CBS.
