CBS has ordered a handful of new comedy pilots, including one that comes from the mind of Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan.

According to Deadline, the pilot is called The Emperor of Mailbu and is written by Kwan and David Sangalli.

Both writers will also serve as executive producers along with 2 Broke Girls executive producer Michelle Nader and Christina Lee, both of whom will act as show runners on the series.

The Emperor of Malibu is set to focus on the son of a Chinese billionaire who announces his engagement to an American woman.

Shortly after he breaks the news to his relatives, his outrageous family shows up with the hopes of winning their son back, and with intentions of trying their hand at the American dream.

In addition to The Emperor of Malibu, CBS has also ordered two other comedy pilots.

First up is The Unicorn, a multi-camera comedy written by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff and inspired by a true story. The series centers on a widower looking to move forward in life, only to realize just how difficult it is to raise two daughters while trying to get back into the dating world.

Finally, CBS has also given a pilot order to Brendan O’Brien and Nick Stoller’s Our House. The series has a put pilot commitment and focuses on a mother who’s determined to give her children the love and support she never got as a kid. Things get a bit tricky when her parents and sibling come back into the picture and shake things up.

Thus far, CBS has ordered seven comedy pilots in total, so we’ll be curious to see which ones end up getting a coveted spot on their 2019/2020 TV lineup!
