Perhaps similar to the BBC’s Sherlock which just wrapped up its second series this past weekend, CBS has officially greenlit an American version of a show based on Sherlock Holmes stories.

We had learned one was in development back in September.

Yahoo! reports:

CBS has kicked off what is expected to be a busy week by ordering two drama projects to pilot.
The first, Elementary, is a modern take on the cases of Sherlock Holmes, with Sherlock now living in New York City.

Robert Doherty will write and executive produce the CBS TV Studios project, with CBS vet Sarah Timberman (A Gifted Man, Unforgettable) and Carl Beverly on board as executive producers.

CBS has a high bar to jump – as our readers know, Steven Moffat’s Sherlock is a very popular show. Do you think it could have potential?
