It looks like CBS are planning to cash in on the current Sherlock Holmes craze by launching their own modern-day remake of Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories.

Deadline reports:

CBS has bought Sherlock Holmes, a drama project from CBS TV Studios and studio-based Timberman/Beverly Prods., which is described as a modern take on the cases of the pipe-smoking private eye created by Arthur Conan Doyle. Rob Doherty is writing and will executive produce with Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly.

This would follow the success of popular UK TV show Sherlock, also set in the twenty-first century, which features Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character and Martin Freeman as his sidekick Dr John Watson. The planned CBS show would build on the popularity of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes feature films as well, which star Robert Downey Jr. and give an action hero twist to the nineteenth century detective.
