Read what CBS president Nina Tassler has to say about the future of How I Met Your Mother and whether the show could continue post-mother reveal.

TV Line reports comments made by Tassler about How I Met Your Mother, which will soon be officially picked up for a ninth season (the fact that it will be renewed has been common knowledge for a while now).

Tassler shares the network’s confidence that things will work out for the show, and confirms that, “Almost everything is completed.”

As for whether season 9 will be the series’ last, Tassler has an interesting reply. She says, “it’s funny, we talked the other day [about], ‘[Will] people watch the show beyond knowing the mother?’ I bet there are a lot of people that would continue to watch after that.”

Not only does this imply that the network is indeed considering extending the series even further, but also that we will indeed meet the mother in season 9.

“But right now,” Tassler cautions, “it’d be the end as designed by [co-creators] Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas], and I wouldn’t want to even attempt to undermine what their creative goal was.”

Considering that the showrunners had been planning for a ninth season, with a contingency plan in place to wrap up the show in season 8 if they had to, we’d say Bays and Thomas are probably not looking beyond season 9. But who knows – if we don’t meet the mother until the season 9 finale, perhaps there will be enough interest from fans to explore her and Ted’s relationship to keep the series going.

Would you like to see How I Met Your Mother continue past its upcoming ninth season? And would you like the show to explore Ted post-mother meeting, or to end it with the promise of the life we know they’ll have together?
