Ryan Murphy’s new anthology series Feud will chronicle Hollywood’s most famous head-to-heads. Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to star as Olivia de Havilland.

The former Glee showrunner has really found his niche with anthology series. First it was American Horror Story, then American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, and now it’s Feud: A string of dramatizations of real-life Hollywood celebrity battles.

Now, Murphy has announced that Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to play Olivia de Havilland, one of America’s most iconic actresses from the black-and-white era, perhaps most famous for her turn as Melanie in Gone With the Wind.

De Havilland is one of the last remaining actresses from Hollywood’s Golden Age, and celebrated her 100th birthday last month.

The first episode of Feud tracks the tension between Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) and Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange) on the set of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? in 1962.

The cast also includes Alfred Molina, Stanley Tucci, Judy Davis and Dominic Burgess.

When FX first picked up Ryan Murphy’s Feud, network CEO John Landgraf said in a statement:

“Ryan keeps re-inventing TV. Nip/Tuck brilliantly extended the boundaries of ad supported television. Glee re-imagined the television musical. American Horror Story pioneered the modern anthological series, which has rapidly transformed the television landscape and been widely copied. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story was recognized by many as the best and most talked about new show this year. And all of those shows have been award-winning ratings hits. Feud adds a third and equally ambitious franchise to Ryan’s unprecedented slate of FX anthological limited series and marks our third such collaboration with studio partner 20th Century Fox Television/Fox 21. The series will offer a seductive, insightful look at what lies behind legendary personality conflicts.”

Feud has received an 8-episode straight-to-series order, and will begin production next year.
