The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is pleasing critics. The film is scoring higher than its predecessor… so far.

As of this writing, Catching Fire is currently holding a 97% average on review round up site Rotten Tomatoes based on 29 reviews. The first movie ended up receiving a 84% based on 274 reviews.

While Catching Fire’s average is very impressive, it’s important to remember that at least 100 more reviews will be added in the next week which could dramatically change its average. Given the early positive buzz, we have a feeling the film will score higher than The Hunger Games once all is said and done.

The positive reviews, however, are easy to find wherever you look on the internet. Even Hollywood’s biggest critics are speaking highly about The Hunger Games sequel. “A safe, serviceable, carefully crafted action drama in which the subversive seeds planted in the first story take welcome root,” says The Hollywood Reporter. “‘Catching Fire’ makes for rousing entertainment in its own right, leaving fans riled and ready to storm the castle,” added Variety. Said Badass Digest, “Catching Fire bests The Hunger Games in every way. If the trend continues this series will be a political science fiction epic that will endure for generations.”

Hypable published its review last week and awarded the movie an A- thanks to a smart adaptation method and stellar acting from a wide number of cast members.

Catching Fire opens in theaters this Friday, November 22 with some theaters beginning to screen the film as early as Thursday at 8 p.m. local time.
