Lionsgate and Republic Records announced Friday morning that Coldplay will debut a new song on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.

Coldplay’s Catching Fire song is titled “Atlas” and is scheduled to drop on August 26.

Said the film’s director Francis Lawrence, “I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film. Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can’t wait to share this music with audiences around the world.”

Lionsgate’s head of Film Music Tracy McKnight added that this is a particularly special inclusion because Chris Martin has read the books. “We are so honored that Coldplay, one of the iconic rock bands of our generation, will perform the first song out on the new soundtrack. Knowing that Chris Martin is a fan of the books makes this even more meaningful. The Coldplay single underscores the stature of recording artists we’ve assembled for this powerful soundtrack.”

Coldplay commented on the announcement by sharing the lyrics to “Atlas” on their official Twitter account:

Coldplay is the first Catching Fire soundtrack artist to be announced. A release date for the full album was not shared, but we do know it will be in advance of the movie’s November 22 release.

With The Hunger Games the runaway success that it is, we suspect many artist – big or small – will be clamoring to be a part of the film’s soundtrack. By including just one song they are exposing themselves to a big new audience.
