Recently it was reported that the casting for the actor to play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire (as well as Mockingjay, presumably) has been narrowed down to three candidates: Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund. Seeing as Finnick is a fan favorite, it is vital for the filmmakers to cast his character well in order to hold on to the fans who were disappointed with the first film.

In my opinion, Armie Hammer is the best choice for Finnick for three reasons.

1. Physically, Finnick is described as being extremely handsome.

He is tall, muscular, and athletic.  With tan skin, bronze-colored hair, and “incredible” sea green eyes, making him very popular with people in the Capitol. Despite Armie’s eyes being more of a blueish-gray color, he fits this description perfectly. He’s tall and athletic looking and has a face like a Disney prince. If that doesn’t scream “extremely handsome”, I don’t know what does.

2. Armie has the voice.

Hands down, no matter what anyone tries to convince me otherwise, I will always hear Finnick’s voice as Armie Hammer’s.

3. It’s not often you can find a pretty boy actor who can also play up the more emotional roles.

In my opinion, Armie Hammer has both the acting skills to pull of the more emotional Finnick scenes (watch him in The Social Network if you don’t believe me), along with the slightly comical, flirtatious flair to exude Finnick’s personality (Mirror Mirror might have been a bit of a bust, but no one can deny he played his role fantastically).

This is not to say that I would be completely upset if Lionsgate decided to cast Garrett Hedlund as Finnick (honestly, I don’t even consider Taylor Kitsch as an option because he doesn’t really look the part in my opinion), however, a small part of me will always wish they had cast Armie Hammer.

Editor’s note: Vote in our poll to tell us who of the three reported contenders should play Finnick.
