The Hunger Games: Catching Fire made $110.2 million at the weekend box office, making it the all-time best Thanksgiving performer.

For the past twelve years the record was held by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone starring Dan Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint which made $82.4 million back in 2001.

Catching Fire has now made $296.5 million in the United States and $573 million worldwide. Its opening weekend totaled $161 million domestically making it the highest-grossing November opener ever. The record was previously held by The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

Elsewhere at the weekend box office, Disney’s latest animated film Frozen starring Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Jonathan Groff made an impressive $93 million for its first three days in theaters. It now has the title of Thanksgiving’s best box office opening. Toy Story 2 previously held that record with an $80 million total in 1999.

Catching Fire was widely expected to break records at the box office thanks to its wide-ranging appeal and great critical reception. With promotion nearly out of the way, the cast will return to filming the two-part Mockingjay ending for releases in November 2014 and November 2015.
