Derek and Meredith struggled balancing work and home life

Although very happy to have their miracle baby, the power couple had a hard time learning how to balance life with two kids and their demanding careers. Even though their being at home on maternity leave drove them crazy – things didn’t get any easier once back at work. All season long there was a tug of war as to who had to sacrifice to make things work. In the Grey’s Anatomy season 10 finale everything came to a head when Derek wanted to move to D.C. to work for the government on research. It would mean a complete disruption in Meredith’s life which she wasn’t willing to do.

Meredith and Cristina had a falling out

It was no secret that Meredith was struggling. Cristina saw that and it made her not want to work with Meredith in surgery. This caused a huge rift between the two who usually always backed one another. It was a real blow to Meredith’s ego that Cristina looked down on her as a lesser surgeon. It only added to her struggle of having to chose between work or her children.

Callie and Arizona’s downfall was revealed

Ever since the plane accident Arizona and Callie were on the rocks. Arizona even cheated on Callie in season 9 which caused them to split. But it wasn’t clear what pushed Arizona to that limit until a flashback in Grey’s Anatomy season 10. It was shown that Arizona got pregnant through a sperm donor so they could have another baby. But at a checkup Arizona discovered that the baby had no heartbeat.

After a visit form Callie’s father, who admitted to being unfaithful to her mother, the couple decided to try again. It was a rocky start but eventually they made it work.

April and Jackson secretly wed

Not only did Jackson stop April’s wedding to Matthew but they ran away together! Only for a short time to secretly get married. But with all the gossip in the hospital they decided to keep their marriage secret for some time. Until the hospital came out with a new rule that dating co-workers wasn’t allowed and they had to come clean.

Later in the season, their rushed wedding came with problems. They realized that many of their core beliefs, including religion, are vastly different. It all crashed down when they couldn’t agree on how they’d raise their children just as April learned she’s pregnant.

Cristina was nominated for a Harper-Avery award

Everyone was confident that Cristina would win it for her groundbreaking work. But when she went to the ceremony it was another name that was announced as the winner. Richard then found out that no one at the hospital could win the award because of the hospital itself. This made Cristina realize that she couldn’t stay in Seattle if she hoped to accomplish her dreams.

On a trip to Zurich, Cristina reconnected with her ex Preston Burke. He’d become the head of cardiology there. But told her that he had to leave his job for family reasons. The shocker was that he wanted her to take over for him. It’s an offer Cristina just couldn’t refuse.

Amelia moved to Seattle

Derek’s sister came for a visit to help them with the kids. She was such a big help in and out of the hospital that Meredith and Derek didn’t want her to leave. And they got their wish when she left her fiancé to move in with them.

Maggie is Meredith’s half sister

In the final moments of the Grey’s Anatomy season 10 finale, Maggie revealed to Webber that she was adopted. But she knows who her birth mother is and it’s Elis Grey. That means that Meredith is her half sister. And it looks like Webber is actually her father.
