The upcoming Catch-22 adaptation has had a little bit of a casting shuffle. George Clooney, who is set to star and direct, has switched roles, with additional actors coming on board.

Per Variety, Clooney, who was originally set to portray Colonel Cathcart, will now play the supporting role of Scheisskopf. Scheisskopf is the training officer at the Air cadet base where Yossarian and Clevinger are trained. The move will free Clooney’s time to focus on his co-directing and executive producing responsibilities.

Kyle Chandler, best known for his role as coach Eric Taylor in the NBC adaptation of Friday Night Lights, has been cast in the role of Colonel Cathcart in Clooney’s place.

Chandler joins the previously announced Catch-22 casting of Christopher Abbott (Yossarian) and Hugh Laurie (Major de Coverley).

No official synopsis has been released by Hulu for the six-part, limited series. The synopsis for the Joseph Heller novel on which the series is based describes the story as, “Set in the closing months of World War II in an American bomber squadron off the coast of Italy, Catch-22 is the story of a bombardier named Yossarian who is frantic and furious because thousands of people he has never even met keep trying to kill him. Joseph Heller’s bestselling novel is a hilarious and tragic satire on military madness, and the tale of one man’s efforts to survive it.”

Catch-22 is slated to enter production in early 2018. Clooney’s producing partner Grant Heslov is also set to direct some of the series. Luke Davies and David Michôd will write, and also executive produce.
