Perhaps not so surprisingly, J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy has premiered at number one on The New York Times’ Bestseller list.

The book will appear on the New York Times’ Best Selling Fiction list this weekend. Although their site hasn’t yet been updated, current number one book Winter of The World by Ken Follett will presumably drop to number two. The same book also tops the “Combined Print & E-Book Fiction” list followed by Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James. The Casual Vacancy premiered at the top of USA Today’s Best Seller list this week.

Yesterday we told you that in the United States, the book has sold 375,000 copies across hardback and digital formats. 124,000 copies were sold in the United Kingdom.

Also yesterday we published a Casual Vacancy character guide to help you get through the book. We came up with the idea after noticing that Rowling introduces you to a boatload of characters quite fast.

The Casual Vacancy was published one week ago today amongst mixed reviews from media and readers.
